Do you use meditation to escape reality and what’s really happening?

No, I prefer exercisin

« Escaping reality » is a pretty skewed phrase, meaning-wise. What is more real than the present moment? Than your breath? Everything else only exists in a memory or a worry. It’s in your head, not in the world. So why does that reality get more preference than the one right in front of you?

Yes, I do. Every night after work, I mediate like 15 mins. In work or in life we have been through a lot. Meditation helps me to fresh my mind and manage my stress. During meditation, you can control your breath and listen to it. Also, calm music makes you feel relaxed. Spend time with yourself for a short time makes restart your body.

No! Meditation, for me, is a means to relax, to clear my mind, and to be mindful. Focusing on the inhale and exhale helps me stay grounded. Does my mind wander? Absolutely and sometimes the wandering presents clarities I would otherwise miss and sometimes it’s chatter to be dismissed.

I use it more like to bring awareness to my situation. I normally get really anxious and a guided meditation helps unclutter my mind and accept all the thoughts but not clinging to one of them.

I use meditation to be fully there

Personally, meditation helps me be at peace. When I meditate I focus on the things happening in my mind and I teach myself how to be patient. I imagine a tiny person inside who lives with two chaotic roommates. That tiny person sorts through all of the good, bad, and chaotic information and enjoys doing so. They take their time sorting through a seemingly endless pile of life and patiently puts them in their own drawers.

I suppose technically that is escaping reality because in reality I am paranoid, jumpy, angry, impatient. I have a hard time getting through the day. When I meditate, I’m even able to stop myself from jumping at every itch and sound around me. It helps me breathe and not overthink things.

It’s a nice feeling.

I don’t use it to escape reality, I use it to calm my anxiety. This means I can get back to the things I was doing in a more calm mind set, but there many reasons people meditate.
