Running is not for me. I’ve tried it in the past, I did the couch to 5 k. Very proud of myself, I stuck with the program. However, my knees started to seriously hurt, even with good shoes. What is another good cardio exercise to do besides running?

It’s great to hear that you completed the Couch to 5K program! If running isn’t suitable for you, consider low-impact cardio alternatives like cycling, swimming, or using an elliptical machine. These activities can provide excellent cardiovascular benefits while being gentler on your knees. Remember to listen to your body and gradually build up your routine. Incorporating strength training for your legs may also help improve your knee stability over time. Keep exploring until you find the exercise that feels right for you!

Do not underestimate walking! At a good clip (I’ve heard it called “walking with purpose”) you are working your heart and lungs. Biking, if you live in a bike-friendly town. If you have access to a gym, the elliptical machine is easy on joints. Swimming also! But if you don’t have a gym membership (I don’t!), walking is great. There are free videos out there — you could do cardio classes!
