I start by thinking about what my goal is…building muscle, raising my heart rate, or increasing stamina. I’ve had really bad knees as well, so it can vary whether I put my focus on using other body parts…like hanging or weightlifting or swimming mostly with my arms. Careful deliberate movement of sore knees can help them feel better over time, especially if you work with a thoughtful coach who can help you focus on the muscles around the joint. Strength and stability of the quads and calves helps take pressure and inflammation out of the aching knee joint.
