How do you get yourself up and going on the bad (Depressed, anxious, irritable, etc.) day?
On days when you’re feeling depressed, anxious, or irritable, start by setting small, achievable exercise goals. Begin with just 5-10 minutes of gentle movement, like stretching or a short walk. Create a soothing ritual around this time, perhaps by playing calming music or practicing deep breathing beforehand. Remember, the key is consistency rather than intensity. Celebrate your efforts, no matter how small, and gradually build up your routine. This can help lift your mood and create lasting healthy habits.
It’s not always easy but thinking of things I am grateful for before I get out of bed helps. I like to drink my coffee outside to be in the sun , feed the birds and play with my dogs. These always seem to help with getting rid of depression some. I will try to take time to meditate and do some slow breathing. Also stretching and moving helps me, ideally going for a walk. It sounds kind of corny, but I always have a positive affirmation that comes up on my phone each day and I repeat that. I also like to listen to music while I am doing a.m. chores in the kitchen. I do usually have to get up at least 30 minutes to an hour early but it gives me time to myself before I have to help my 90 year old mom .
