How do you get started despite the ADHD blocking you?

Getting started with cleaning and tidying up can be challenging, especially with ADHD. Begin by breaking tasks into small, manageable steps. Use a timer to create a sense of urgency and focus, such as the Pomodoro technique (25 minutes of work followed by a 5-minute break). Establish a specific ritual, like tidying for just 5 minutes each day at a set time. This consistency can help build lasting habits and make the process feel less overwhelming. Remember, progress is key, not perfection!

Most important is to keep reminding myself the exact bad feeling I have when I don’t do the things I planned or need to do. Also there’s few quotes that helped me - one is “do it scared, do it tired, do it sad, do it no matter what becouse u never know when it’s the last time u do it” and the second was a video where people show for example like if u spill a little bit of water, you just spill all the rest and dont drink? Of course not. When u apply your mascarra and make a little mistake and have a spot under eye, you just wipe all of your make-up and dont go out? Of course not.. and etc etc.. and it shows how stupid is it to stop trying when something doesnt go as u planned or like when u step out of your rutine once, it doesnt mean u should stop trying completely.

I try to first put it in the calendar to ready my cells around whatever is blocking me, then I assign a fellow ADHD buddy to help me Just Get Started. Once I start I usually get a lot done. If I don’t finish the task. I plan a Round 2 with the same buddy.
