Do you exercise before or after breakfast?

Guy C.
Usually after breakfast while my kids are napping. If that doesn't work with my schedule that day then I wait until my kids go to bed.
Maxine C.
Before. I definitely need to exercise first thing in the morning or it doesn’t get done. Then I can look forward to that good feeling when I also have a good breakfast.
Walentina Z.
It is allowed to exercise only before breakfast. First – glass of water, then exercise. If you have a meal, you can start exercising only an hour later after meal.
Lohana Q.
I eat before- my breakfast isn’t too heavy (plain Greek yogurt, blueberries, granola and honey) so by the time I get ready for the gym and then walk there, I’ve gotten the energy I need from my breakfast but I don’t feel too full. I hope this helps, but everyone is different!
Brooke S.
I prefer exercising before I eat any food that day (i.e. fasting workouts). I’ve found that eating before can sometimes make me ill. Also, I like the fact that working out while fasting provides for more “control” in determining the progress I’ve made in exercising. I don’t want my success in a daily workout to be based on the specific foods I ate that day. All the progress I witness is because of my hard work.
Niara A.
I exercise before breakfast. I feel energized and ready for the day after a workout and it feels good to sit and eat and refuel with a nice breakfast after I’ve worked my body out.
Chiara S.
After… need energy.
Abel F.
before, I find that if i exercise after breakfast, I feel too full, and sometimes as i exercise, i burp my breakfast up which isn't really too motivating.
Gerhild X.
I prefer exercising before breakfast. I usually have some sort of pre-workout snack like a piece of fruit in order to have the energy required to complete my workout.
Janet J.
parfois je fais de l’exercice avant je prends le petit déjeuner, mais je fais ça seulement quand je sais que je ne ferai pas pour un période de temps spécifique. À part cela, normalement je fais du jogging ou du boxe après le petit déjeuner.
Maddison U.
I usually exercise before breakfast. First thing in the morning actually because i read somewhere it's good to exercise in a 'fasted' state. So when i do get breakfast, I'll have more of an appetite and I get to replenish my body's nutrients too! (Plus i won't feel nauseous having to vigorously move with a full stomach haha)
Morris C.
I prefer exercising before breakfast. It integrates better in my waking up routine, plus I feel it simpler to exercise without a full stomach and an ongoing digestion. After it, the breakfast is even better, and feels like a reward
Karsten J.
Neither. I exercise after work in the afternoon. I was never successful trying to exercise int he morning because I am the furthest thing from a morning person. I workout when I have the most energy and motivation.
J Ssia T.
In my opinion it is better to exercise before the breakfast. This way you don't interfere in your metabolism and let your organism to do it's job 🙂
Waldin Lia A.
I do it before breakfast, usually while waiting for the coffee. I try to keep the morning exercises short and simple to make sure I can do them every day
William W.
I excercise after. I have diabetes and need to eat something pretty soon after waking to keep my blood sugar in check
Hunter U.
After. Sometimes I do yoga (small amount) before doing my make up in the morning however I usually do exercise in the evening after work or go for a walk at lunch, sometimes jog if I'm going somewhere specific.

Miriam J.
It depends on what type of exercise I am doing. If I am planning on working out for a longer amount of time, I fuel up with breakfast beforehand.
Rosa P.
I exercise before meals including breakfast. In the past I have exercised after eating a meal and it was not a pretty sight as I got sick and it all came out. So now I may have water or a small protein shake or bar but not a meal.
Nascimento Z.
Depends on what you eat at breakfast. Is preferable to exercise 30 – 60 minutes before breakfast or 30 – 60 minutes after breakfast. You can try both options to see which one suits best to you. Good luck!
Ellie B.
I usually exercise before breakfast, so I make sure that I don't get distracted by anything else. I am also usually hungry after I exercise.

I usually eat afterwards. However if I am going to do a high intensity work out I will eat a small spoonful of peanut butter or almond butter 25 min before hand to sustain me and give me the energy I need!
Ubiara Q.
Both? I exercise after I eat something. I try to eat a healthy breakfast before, nothing too heavy, lots of protein. I might eat a smaller snack after.

I exercise first thing when I wake up. I drink some water during the workout. If I’m starving, I make a smoothie after my workout, but most days I’m not hungry until I get to work, so I eat then. I’m definitely not a morning eater!
Maya P.
After. Sometimes I do yoga (small amount) before doing my make up in the morning however I usually do exercise in the evening after work or go for a walk at lunch, sometimes jog if I'm going somewhere specific.

Always before. Exercising on a full stomach or even half full stomach, limits your performance. If I am very hungry I usually eat something very light, like a banana and at least 20-30 min. before the exercise.
Pedro U.
I exercise after breakfast. The time it takes to make and eat breakfast allows me to wake up a little, and then I have more energy to exercise!
Den Sia Q.
I prefer to exercise an hour after I’ve had a protein and carb rich breakfast, this fuels my workout down the gym nicely.
Ingra N.
It depends. If I plan to do cardio I have an indoor bike and try to ride before breakfast. If I plan to lift weights that day I will eat first. Either way I try to eat before I leave the house for the day.
Clinton E.
Before breakfast as I don't like moving around too much on a full stomach and don't have enough time to let it go down before starting my exercise

Christian C.
Sometimes before, sometimes after.. I'm a bit lean and underweight so it's good for me to exercise before breakfast so I can intake more

I’ve been choosing before breakfast. I like feeling like the breakfast was won and also like there’s nothing too big in my stomach while I exercise.
Villads X.
After because breakfast is one of the first things I do in the mornings, but if I exercised before I’d have more of an appetite for a larger breakfast to start off the day
Maya O.

Always before breakfast, otherwise you will not feel good. You will get used to it and love it after a while, and it is less hard than you think. However, drink some water when you wake up.
Craig F.
I exercise after breakfast because when you need energy from the food to get the most out of your workout. Of course, I use ligut food like eggs, ham, and fruit since heavy foods like pancakes and french toast makes me sleepy.

I exercise before, but I also just walk on the treadmill (more for movement than for exercise). When I eat breakfast after, I find that it keeps me full longer. However if you are going to exercise intensely, it may be better to eat a lean protein breakfast before to give you the energy you need to accomplish your workout.
Max U.
Before. I have a difficult time exercising with a full tummy and I am more likely to do it first thing,or else I will sit and think myself out of it during breakfast.
Selma C.
I haven't started exercising yet. I will most likely exercise after breakfast so that I have some energy. I'll probably stick to fruit/nuts before exercise though. Nothing too heavy.
Dolores F.
Depends on the exercise and the day. If I walk before and sometimes after breakfast. If I swim or take a class it’s after.
Ella G.
After. Eating before makes me feel sluggish, and eating after leaves me a moment to pause and catch my breath before showering and heading to work.
Marcus A.
I take the dogs for a walk that lasts about 10-15 minutes. We moved into a house from an apartment about 8 months ago. I didn’t realize how beneficial that little bit of walking was for me and the dogs. When I get back to the house I go ahead and do a full workout now and then eat breakfast.
Freddie W.
I usually exercise in the afternoon after 1 hour from taking a snack, but I started doing yoga in the morning after the breakfast and it feels good to wake up both mind and body like that.
Mia P.
I eat my breakfast before I excersize because that gives me more time to wake up and I prefer to not excersize on an empty stomach.
Franklin A.
Always before. But I try to eat at least half an hour before, according to what I’m eating. If it’s a bar, a bagel or oatmeal, I’ll eat half an hour before. I don’t ever eat heavier than that. After the work out, I eat another small round of breakfast to recoup.
Flora T.
I exercise after breakfast. The time it takes to make and eat breakfast allows me to wake up a little, and then I have more energy to exercise!
Alan Z.
Depends on the day. If I'm doing a cardio or lighter workout, I'll eat after. If I'm doing a heavy weight/lower body workout, I'll eat before. It's important to pay attention to how you feel during the workout – some people always need to eat before to have enough energy. Other people do better with an empty stomach. Try both, and see which one works best for you.
Kasper G.
I do yoga before breakfast. I share the house with others, therefore I need to use my own room so as not to disturb anyone. Also, I sleep in loose fitting clothing to do my yoga in! Therefore, in my head, it makes sense to wake up, drink the water I left on the bedside table, and immediately do an exercise right there on the bedroom floor. There's less location change so I don't have an excuse to not exercise. I also have less time to make up my mind not to exercise when I avoid putting those extra accomplishments between me and exercising.
Gauthier Z.

Noah E.
I think it’s pretty important to eat before exercising. I used to workout on an empty stomach, and i couldn’t perform well as a result and afterwards I was completely drained. My trainer at the time recommended eating beforehand, even something small, and it makes a big difference.
Maria T.
After. Sometimes I do yoga (small amount) before doing my make up in the morning however I usually do exercise in the evening after work or go for a walk at lunch, sometimes jog if I'm going somewhere specific.

Raul O.
I exercise after breakfast because I wake up really hungry in the morning as I am still breastfeeding my toddler during the night. I did I am able to exercise better if I have eaten.
Eric J.
Both, sort of.

I drink a small protein shake prior to my workout to give me the protein and energy needed. I also add an exercise supplement to the shake, to assist with muscle recovery. I notice without the supplement I tend to be more sore and recovery takes longer.

I then wait 20 or 30 minutes before I actually start the work out.

If I work out in the afternoon, I can sometimes forgo the supplement and protein shake, but in the morning I absolutely need the supplement because it has a little caffeine to kick up my energy level. Without that, my morning workout never gets out of first gear.

But then sometime after my workout and shower are complete, I will have my “real” breakfast.

Eliza Y.

I tend to exercise early in the morning, before breakfast. I typically do better on an empty stomach, eating after my workout.
Iolene C.
I don't do anything too extreme. What I do is have a good 30 minutes- to 1 hour long stretching session after breakfast.

Normally I do other chores (cleaning and tidying up, vacuuming…) before stretching. That's because in a way or another I allow my muscles to move around a bit and warm up.

Only then do I start with actual warm up exercises and finally stretch.

Laurie E.
Always exercise before your breakfast. Thats when you are going to burn some fat. If you want to exercise after the breakfast then take a gap of 40 to 60 minutes in between atleast.

I exercise before breakfast, for two reasons. 1: anything in my belly would make me nauseated, and 2: if I do anything beforehand other than go to the toilet, I will find excuses to not exercise.

Damien Y.
I exercise before breakfast if I am trying to lose weight and just doing cardio. After breakfast if I am trying to maintain weight or put on muscle.
