I do an active warmup before a workout — in track we would run or walk for 10-15 minutes, and only then do stretches. Stretching a cold muscle isn’t effective and can actually strain it. For hard weight workouts, I definitely try to stretch afterwards. Of course, this is all best-case scenario. If you only have 20 minutes, go for a brisk walk. Or dance around a little before a non-cardio workout. The best exercise is the ones you’ll actually do.
