How to read faster and still understand?

Fabulous CoachBehavioral Science AssistantRecommended AnswerAI Summary

To read faster while maintaining comprehension, start by previewing the material to grasp main ideas. Practice skimming for key concepts and use your finger or a pen to guide your eyes. Focus on eliminating subvocalization (the voice in your head that reads along) by training your mind to absorb information visually. Set specific goals for each reading session to create a meaningful ritual, and gradually increase your reading speed while checking your understanding. Consistent practice will help you develop this valuable habit.

Skimming, you can find how-to’s online, but the basics is that you’re only reading every 3rd or 4th word and focusing on core not bits. Practice and you’ll get better and faster

The goal is not to read faster, the goal is to understand. Read out loud and focus on the words you are reading, because we read for comprehension. What I usually do while reading is think about what I’m reading while reading. Also notice if ever you wander off while you’re reading.

How do I read faster and still understand? I use the skimming and scanning method first then i read everything just flows.

Farheen N.

Time yourself when you read to practice. A page, or a paragraph. Read it as fast as possible, then summarize what you read. Remember that understanding is more important the speed at which you read, so don’t be discouraged if you aren’t as fast as you would like.
