To effectively activate your parasympathetic nervous system and prepare for restful sleep, aim to start your wind-down routine 60 to 90 minutes before bedtime. This time allows you to engage in calming activities, such as reading, gentle stretching, or meditation, which can help signal your body that it’s time to relax. Establishing this consistent pre-sleep ritual can enhance the quality of your sleep and support your overall well-being.

I would say 30 min. Some people do like 5 mins of meditation for faster progress. I heard some soldiers do this 1 min technique of full body scan to sleep right away.

To wind down 30 minutes is best for me to wind down and get ready to sleep. I used to sometimes just do 5 minutes of meditation to sleep faster. I read some soldiers do 1 min full body scan thing to sleep faster. For parasympathetic nervous system, you can activate it almost instantly by extending your exhales, which stimulates the vagus nerve to lower your heart rate.

30 minutes is the best way I would say, sometimes I do 5 min meditation to make my body and mind wind down faster, some people do like 1 min full body scan. To activate parasympathetic nervous system you can almost do immediately by breathing ( inhale 4 sec and exhale 6 sec), mind body practice, and external calm.
