How do you find out that you are actually meditating?
To determine if you are actually meditating, pay attention to your mental state during and after the practice. Are you experiencing moments of clarity, calmness, or heightened awareness? Meditation often involves observing thoughts without judgment and returning to your breath or a focal point. If you notice a shift in your emotional well-being or a reduction in stress, you are likely meditating effectively. Consistency in your practice will help deepen your understanding and enhance your meditation experience.
Most of the time there is some relaxation during meditation (the relaxation response is well documented). Sometimes you may feel distracted, agitated and impatient. If you follow through for your fun meditation time and don’t rush to come out, you should feel better afterwards. I think that is the best indicator of successful meditation. Don’t be concerned with thoughts or feelings DURING meditation. That is a really good part of the process. Good luck with your practice.
