Is one sentence enough to still call it journaling?
Absolutely! Journaling is a personal practice, and there’s no strict rule about length. Writing just one sentence can still capture your thoughts and feelings, making it a meaningful ritual. The key is consistency and reflection, not the volume of words. Start with what feels comfortable for you, and as you build the habit of writing in your journal, you may find yourself naturally expanding your entries. Embrace the process, and let journaling serve as a tool for self-discovery and growth.
Journaling is for you. It shouldn’t feel like a chore to cross out on your to-do list. If you’re really trying to make a habit of daily journaling, then I’d say yes, because you’re going through the act, and consistency is important for making something a habit. It’s a practice, so even writing down, “Crazy day, too tired to write!” is another day of making a habit. But if you’re journaling for personal growth or spirtual practice, then why force yourself to write something down if there’s nothing to say? This is such a personal practice — we shouldn’t worry it whether it “counts” or not. Counts to who? It’s only for you.
