How do you keep the wandering mind at bay ?

I make sure to get as much physical activity during the day as I can and read either poetry or philosophy before bed. Between physical tiredness and generally pondering the human condition, emptying the mind and turning one's thoughts to background noise becomes surprisingly easy.
