How do you get rid of bombarding thoughts that come at you while you try to meditate?

truthfully i’m still working on this, i try to bring my attention back to my breath but i would appreciate any tips or help!

Meditation does not mean no thoughts or controlling your thoughts. To me it means resting the thoughts, letting go of thoughts and finally focusing.
You can practice – mantra meditation or focus or breathing. That way thoughts subside easily and cutting you from outside world; giving greater benifits.
