I start by setting a timer. Whatever time is convenient for me, I use it to meditate. I don't follow a routine or a training app or anything of the sort. I simply stop whatever I'm doing, lay on my bad and close my eyes. As I start to let my thoughts take over, I take deep breaths every now and then to hold back any negative thoughts. It's simple but it's effective for me. Also, I do this for about 20-25 minutes a day.
