Is a few minutes of exercise throughout the day effective?

You should get about an hour of exercise a day. I like to wake up and have a good breakfast and then exercise by doing my daily exercises. I usually also rock climb or run to get in more exercise.

Yes personally my workout is about 2 hours which includes a hour of lifting and 1 hour of cardio.After the workout I feel exhausted but I feel good and pat my self on the back
