I wake up super early for morning shifts (think 3-4am) meditation sends me back to sleep, is that ok? Should I change the meditation to the afternoon?

I personally think you should change the meditation to whenever you’ll get the most out of the practice. If it won’t make you fall asleep in the afternoon, then yes, change it to the afternoon where you might be able to feel the effects throughout your day. Hope that helps!
