How do you decide which tasks to target first on your to-do list?
Deciding which tasks to target first on your to-do list can significantly impact your productivity. Start by identifying tasks that align with your long-term goals and values. Use the Eisenhower Matrix to categorize tasks by urgency and importance. Prioritize tasks that are both urgent and important, followed by important but not urgent. This approach ensures you’re focusing on what truly matters, helping you build lasting healthy habits and meaningful daily rituals that lead to success.
I am trying to prioritize whatever has to do with health ( mental - physical) like sports , preparing my meals, taking care of myself and then whatever it has to be done like my job, taxes , answer to my clients and so on.
I go with the most difficult and the heaviest/ fullest of tasks. Especially those that require mental strength. This is why I prefer working out in the mornings because my energy levels are higher and because it’s gets harder to mentally put myself in that space over the course of the day, it is best to start early. I am a morning person, so I try to do most of big ones when I’m active so that I can wind down properly as the day passes.
Frankly speaking, I’m only on my way to make the right order for me . I do change the order of habits very often. Finally I cut the number of habits. My choice depends on my morning mood -if I woke up early, I can do all the habits . But if I woke up late, I do the most important. As if today, for instance, I decided to write my to do first to make my head free of different thoughts. In my list it stands the last. To concluded, it takes some time to understand how to order the habits, to feel myself most comfortable. Cut, add, reorder, again and again, and finally find the best!
I focus on three important things for the day, because previously making my to do list too long would not make me feel accomplished. In a way, having a short to do list already shows me what is important to start with. This is usually the things that have a due date or need something scheduled. I try to have my three main things focus on personal needs, school/work, and family.
