Forming the habit of disconnecting involves creating a structured evening ritual that signals your mind and body to unwind. Start by choosing a specific time each evening to unplug from screens. You might use a block app to limit distractions or set a gentle reminder. Incorporate calming activities like reading or meditating during this time. Consistency is key; over weeks, this routine will help reinforce your ability to disconnect and recharge, ultimately supporting your overall well-being.

I do a combination of things. My phone is set to go into bedtime mode (black & white screen, do not disturb, etc) one hour before my prescribed bedtime. I then finish up anything I need to do on my phone in the next few minutes and plug it in to charge in my bedroom, before returning to my living room to finish winding down with a cup of tea and a book. Having something else to distract me in the meanwhile keeps me from wanting to go back on my phone.
