Are you building the same amount of muscle when doing an exercise routine say once a week vs spreading out that amount during the week?

Doriana N.
I prefer spreading out that amount during the week. Doing exercise once a week is not very useful, and it’s better building a routine with some minutes of exercise every day (or almost every day).

If you want to build muscle it is good to work it out and rest it for a day or two. It is best to work it out 2 – 4 times a week.

I am no expert, but I don't think one would see as much gain exercising once a week. Something is better than nothing, of course. The best way I know of is to work on one muscle group, and then let it rest for two days. My ideal is a four day split: Mon-Tues, Thurs-Fri, walking only on Wed, and nothing on the weekend.

I actually have never tried to spread 1 day of exercise into 5 or 7 days during the week. What I do know is that you get results when you persist. So no matter what amount of excercise you do, the important thing is to keep doing it, if not on a daily basis at least 3 times a week.

I think if you want to build muscle, it's better to spread it out during the week. The muscle actually builds while you are resting from the exercise. If you only do it once a week, you're not "resting" to recover as often! Exercise gets easier the more often you do it, so if you push through the first few routines, you will feel stronger next week.

No definitely not. I’m studying dance and I know that within
4 days you’re muscles already loose strength if you don’t trigger them again so it’s more important to do more times a week (even short times) then only 1 time a week otherwise you don’t build up anything. Let’s go and do 5 minutes every day? 🙂

As a musician, I personally believe in spreading out a practice. This can be applied to working out. I would rather do 5 – 15 min. Of physical activity everyday than just doing an hour once a week. It creates a habit and muscle memory which is ultimately more effective in the long run.

Spreading it out during the week will build muscle and strengthen the muscle. Making it apart of your time over the week will make the muscle stronger rather than once a week
