Why do people choose not to eat vegan?

Some people choose not to be vegan for a myriad of reasons. Some could be just used to eating meat and are unable to quit and not realize the benefits (physically, mentally, and spiritually) that arise when you go vegan. Some people try very hard to be vegan but are unable to find satisfying foods or do not know HOW to cook from scratch. Then there are those that are almost completely vegan (that’s me- I’ve just completed an entire week and I’m not looking back). Eggs were the hardest for me to stop using but there are so many options to use. It might be just not having enough information to help others embark on that specific lifestyle change. It is a life choice which some people don’t realize or they just do not like eating or they might be just too lazy to go through.

I did a vegan diet for a little over two weeks, and it is quite a challenge. It’s totally different from what every American was taught how to eat. You can’t think of it like “oh what can I get to replace chicken nuggets, or a hamburger, or this and that. You have to think of it as this is a whole new thing, because it is. There are new foods you will be introduced to and it’s a lot to take it and it’s a learning process. Also people love meat lol. The reason I stopped doing the vegan diet is because I couldn’t balance my macros right and it was stressful. I’m sure there are many other reasons why people don’t choose to be vegan, but that was mine.

Meat tastes too good

Not everyone can afford/knows how to prepare meat alternatives. Sometimes it’s not realistic if they have a nutrient deficiency

Being vegan is a goal I have, right now I am not because I am learning new ways of cooking, I use meat less and less but all my foundational meals I was raised on have meat. It’s a learning process and you have to have the desire to change, i think most people choose not to because they don’t want to put in the effort to change.. Also my biggest road block is I’m addicted to cheese.

Because they simply have not had it modeled for them. Or they assume it is all eating salads without understanding what a true plant based diet looks like.

I personally think meat is delicious. I also love dairy and eggs. It may be selfish seeming, but life is short, even for vegans, and I like to eat what I enjoy. I do buy eggs from our local Hutterite colonies, and I try to buy locally sourced meats as well.

For me, it would be complicated. A lot of changes required. A lot to think about. Plus I like the taste of meat. I feel like eating grass fed animals or freetange chickens is ok. I would probably want to cut out processed foods before I gave up all animal products.

I feel like it’s because they’re not informed enough about the vegan diet. There are also studies that show people feel like veganism is attacking their way of life, so they get defensive about it. I personally am not vegan, I don’t eat meat but I do eat eggs and cheese.

Not enough protein in a vegan diet. There are also issues with getting a variety of nutrients.
