I sit down and reach for my toes. Then I lay on my back and put one foot in the air and grab it, pulling it down towards my chest, then switch feet. I also look up a new one to try sometimes.

If they are very tight I start lying down stretching one leg at a time straight up slowly bending and straightening the leg, flexing and pointing. I have a routine for sitting with both legs in front, it also involves contracting the abdomen and releasing the lower back in between stretches. I also do sitting in heyhalf straddle position, one leg bent in front and the other extended to the side, doing a side stretch then turning to face the leg and pulling down and across to stretch the opposite side of the back. To avoid or relieve lower back pain, the best thing to do is to stretch one leg at a time and the opposite side of the back.
