Most of the time it is hard. Focusing something else that would take your attention helps. Whenever your mind returns to chattering, direct your attention towards the task at hand over and over again. Hope it helps.

But I found, focusing on the movement is the best. Simply focusing on the way the hand moves, how the fingers touch the cup and then grab, the feeling of one step on the ground after another while walking, and water running onto the hands, etc. When I fully concentrate on these physical movements, the mind has no room to wander.
