Why do some people hate reading fiction?

I love fiction, but my father never read it. I made a comment once about him hating fiction and he said he didn’t hate it. It was just that there’s only a certain amount of time in each day and he wanted to spend it living his own life, not reading about fictional lives. He has accomplished a lot in his life, so it worked for him. When I take a break, tho, I pull out a favorite book.

That’s a really great question. I’ve always heard that people hate non-fiction because it can be a bit dry and uneventful. The only reason I can think is that it can be too far away from real life that maybe some people may not be able to really sink into the story.
