Start small, with languages particularly you want to do baby steps. I would recommend looking into either duilinguo or whatever language you wish to learn followed by 101.pod ie. afrikaans101.pod. It is a great website to start learning a new language. The best way would be to go to a country where the language is spoken to the most so you can immerse yourself into both the language and the culture surrounding it. Which is just as important. Hope this helps.

I recommend using Duolingo for learning a new language.
If u r not interested in learning a language with technology, I recommend you start with the basic alphabet, and grammar and then move on to basic (introducing) sentences and further move on to complex grammar and sentence formation.
