Do you pay attention to the gender, origin, background of the authors you read?
It’s important to consider the gender, origin, and background of the authors you read, as this can enrich your understanding and broaden your perspective. Diverse voices can introduce you to new ideas and experiences, enhancing your reading journey. By being mindful of the authors you choose, you can create a more inclusive reading ritual that aligns with your goals of personal growth and self-awareness. This practice can foster empathy and help you develop a more well-rounded worldview.
Personally, I do check their about me page to books, but it’s mostly for context as to what inspired them to write the book they were writing in the first place. For example, the character James Vega from “The Sleepless” is based on Victor Manibo’s Filipino background and experiences as a queer man. So I basically pay attention to the author’s background as an addition to the media I’m reading and see what the author is inspired by throughout the story itself! That’s just me tho.
