My kids are young and are not yet good at cleaning up. I feel like the bulk of my clean and tidy up routine is putting away their toys. I’m wondering if it would be more beneficial for me to clean up their toys AND then start timing my routine. Thoughts? Other ideas for beating the daily toy grind?

I can relate to that! A good idea would be to incorporate it into your routines. It is apart of your everyday life that isn’t going away. Instead of pretending it isn’t there or struggling with it it might be a good idea to work with instead of around it.

I have a similar issue with my life. However, I chose one thing to clean up for my clean and tidy up part of my routine: the litter box, which was the one thing I don’t want to go to bed without having done. All the rest is bonus for me. I also have a clean and tidy habit in my noon routine which I use for doing my lunch dishes and clearing my desk so that when it is time to go home from work I am ready (rather than spending 15 minutes putting away files and packing my bag). So long story short, I have assigned a particularly important clean-up task for my habit rather than just generic cleaning up. I don’t know if that will help since in your case if I understood correctly, you want to pick up toys and also clean something else. You could always make your timer longer if necessary.

One way is to make kids stay in a particular section of the house say their room, that way u only have to deal with cleaning up their room instead of the whole house. Don’t forget you’re also important so while they’re playing with toys or have their toys in their room take care of you mama bear. ❤️

I think it’s too easy to try and skew the times of our routines to make us feel better about them.

Your routines take as long as they take – including the toys! I would just include them in the timing 😀
