I can’t keep tidy – no matter what or how hard I try, 10 minutes a day, a full clean on a Saturday, I just cannot keep tidy. I think it’s because I’m always in a rush so I don’t feel I have the time to put each individual item away if it’s not super easy to access. Any ideas on how to stop my room becoming a pig sty/bomb site whenever I spend more that 30 seconds in it? I don’t need it to be show room tidy, but I need some sort of order.

Create a new organation system where everything in your home has a place in your home where it belongs. When you’re using it, it goes with you out the door, for example, purse, wallet, phone, keys, clothes shoes, etc. When you’re not using it when you arrive back home, have a place where you set those things as soon as you get home. For example, your purse, wallet, and keys are placed on a table or wall shelf near the door so you can find and grab them again on your way out the door. If you’re changing your clothes, your clothes get hung up in your closet, and your shoes go back on your shoe rack. It’s almost like placing things in the right spot where it belongs versus placing it randomly across your home or in piles to be sorted later. It may take a bit longer at first, but once you get in the habit of putting everything back in the place you’ve designated, the amount of time and stress you would save is worth it. If not, the piles and stuff you see out of place would likely trigger a stress response and make you focus your attentionand energy on how it needs to be cleaned all the time and how you’re behind because you’ve been needing and been meaning to do it until you actually make the time to do it. Instead, place your belongings back to its home base to avoid all that. So even when you’re in a rush and need to place your things somewhere, you know where it’s supposed to be placed.

I try to have things back in place and dishes, if I’ve cooked or used any, washed and back in its place by the end of each day before I go to bed. That way on the following day I have a fresh start and don’t have to wake up to a bunch of cleaning I already should have done.

Ultimately, finding a home for everything inside your home and creating a system that works for you and your schedule is key. Everything can be placed back to its home base as soon as you let go of it, at the end of each day, or end of each week, so you don’t add extra stress and workload on yourself for next time, like when it’s inconvenient and you’re in a rush. Hope this helps!

Every individual has a system of cleaning that works for them. So you just have to find what works for you. I’m a cleaner so typically my style of cleaning is top to bottom, left to right & just go from there. Also i have regular clients that are weekly. So appliances & your things tend to never stay dust free or staying where they usually go. So don’t judge yourself it’s just how things tend to go.
I’ve noticed that what helps me is putting things away as soon as you use it. Or as you walk to the bathroom & you see something near you that belongs there bring it with. Just try to clean as you go to different areas of the house & that might help. Also another method is just think of it as a reward when you have time tell yourself i will organize this or i will get this done. It get’s your mind set on getting it done rather than procrastinating & feeling guilty later. Reward yourself after and tell yourself when i finish this i will get a snack or watch a show or just anything that you like doing. You can do it 🙌🏼
