Is listening to a book the same as reading it, particularly fiction? Can you still imagine characters?

Listening to a book is not the same as reading it to me. I find I get distracted easier when listening and my mind wanders a lot. I also find it more difficult to imagine the characters. So to answer your question listening a book not the same as reading a book.
