What are the Healthiest Drinks to Your Health?

Hi Fabulous Traveler - I hope you've been well since last week!

There are so many options for what to drink, but for most people who have access to safe drinking water, water is the best choice: it’s calorie-free, and it’s as easy to find as the nearest tap.

Water provides everything the body needs—pure H2O—to restore fluids lost through metabolism, breathing, sweating, and the removal of waste. It’s the perfect beverage for quenching thirst and re-hydrating your system.

If you don’t add sweeteners, then tea and coffee are a close second to water in terms of healthiness.

Most other drinks – milk, fruit juice and diet sodas – need to be moderately consumed or in limited quantities. Alcohol in moderation can be healthy for some people, but not everyone.

But please, Fabulous Traveler, stay away from sugary drinks like soda, sports beverages, and energy drinks. These drinks give you a rush of energy and then cause you to crash!

How much water do I need?

There is no one estimate for how much water you need. About 15 cups a day for men and 11 cups for women should be sufficient as a general guideline. Don't think much of it, just drink water and feel great about it.

What Drinks Should You Limit Your Consumption Of

Drinks that are loaded with sugar are the worst choice; they contain a lot of calories and virtually no other nutrients. Consuming high-sugar drinks can lead to increased risk of type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and gout.

  • In an average can of soda or fruit punch, there is 150 calories. Drink one of these a day without cutting calories anywhere else; and you gain up to five pounds every year.
  • Sports drinks were created to provide athletes with electrolytes, carbs and fluid while they did intense workouts lasting at least an hour. For everybody else, they’re just filled with calories and sugar.
  • Energy drinks have as much sugar as soft drinks. Plus, the caffeine amount will cause your blood pressure to rise. They also contain additives whose long-term health effects are unknown. The best thing you can do with these types of drinks is avoid them altogether.

This Week's One Habit

Three times next week, drink water first thing in the morning, as a commitment to yourself to drink water all throughout the day.

You can also drink coffee or tea. They can be healthy without added sweeteners. For this challenge, we will only count the habit Drink Water as advancing in your challenge.
