Strategies to block digital distractions
Make your digital environment one that works for you. Experiment with these strategies.
For your phone:
- Choose your notifications wisely and disable any that cause distractions.
- Check your screen usage. Most smart phones have a built-in setting for this. Your total might surprise you. Then set limits on screen time or app time.
- Turn on silent or Do Not Disturb mode when you’re working.
- Put your phone out of sight to help you focus.
For your computer:
- Set specific times to check your email, social media, and other non-urgent communications.
- Close any websites that aren’t necessary for the task immediately at hand.
- Bookmark tabs you use regularly instead of leaving them open.
- Set up your homepage to only open windows you need in order to focus.
Best yet, unplug completely! Stretch, get some fresh air, enjoy a glass of water, or do anything else to get away from your screen. A short break boosts productivity, energy, and focus.
