The Psychological Foundation: Starting Small<br \/>\nThe biggest mistake people make and I made before now is starting with a &#8220;Day 1&#8221; that looks like a &#8220;Year 3&#8243; workout. If you exhaust yourself on the first day, your brain will associate exercise with pain and avoidance.<br \/>\nThe Two-Minute Rule: When you start, your goal isn&#8217;t to get fit; it&#8217;s to become the person who doesn&#8217;t miss a workout. Commit to just five minutes. If you want to stop after five minutes, you can. Usually, the hardest part is just putting on your shoes.<br \/>\nHabit Stacking: Attach your exercise to an activity like say&#8221;after my exercise in the morning I prepare breakfast and for school&#8221;.<br \/>\n2. Structural Consistency:<br \/>\nConsistency beats intensity every single time. My 17-minute home workout every day is better for habit-building than a grueling two-hour gym session once a month.<br \/>\nReduce Friction: Lay out your workout clothes the night before. If you have to hunt for socks, that\u2019s a &#8220;friction point&#8221; and it has  giving my  brain an excuse to quit in the past.<br \/>\nThe &#8220;Never Miss Twice&#8221; Rule: Life happens. You\u2019ll miss a day eventually. The rule is that you can miss one day, but you never miss two in a row. Missing once is an accident; missing twice is the start of a new habit of not working out.<br \/>\nFind Your &#8220;Why&#8221;: Internal motivation (wanting more energy, mental clarity, or longevity) lasts much longer than external motivation (wanting to look a certain way for an event) although I work out to keep fit.<br \/>\n3. The Practical &#8220;What&#8221;: Exercises to Start With<br \/>\nWhen starting off, you want movements that are low-barrier but high-reward. You don&#8217;t need a fancy gym or expensive equipment.<br \/>\nLow-Impact Cardio<br \/>\nThis builds your &#8220;aerobic base&#8221; and strengthens your heart without crushing your joints.<br \/>\nBodyweight Fundamentals<br \/>\nBuilding a bit of muscle increases your metabolic rate and makes you feel stronger quickly.<br \/>\nSquats: These target the largest muscles in your body (quads and glutes).<br \/>\nPush-ups: Even if you start doing them against a wall or on your knees, they are the gold standard for upper-body strength.<br \/>\nPlanks: Excellent for &#8220;core&#8221; stability, which protects your back during daily activities.<br \/>\nFlexibility and Mobility<br \/>\nYoga or Dynamic Stretching: This helps prevent injury. If you feel &#8220;stiff&#8221; from sitting at a desk studying, simple movements like the &#8220;Cat-Cow&#8221; or &#8220;Downward Dog&#8221; can be life-changing.<br \/>\n4. Reflection and Contemplation<br \/>\nTo make this permanent, take a moment to look at your current schedule.<br \/>\nWhere is the &#8220;dead air&#8221;? Is there a time of day when you\u2019re just scrolling on your phone? That is your workout window.<br \/>\nWhat do you actually enjoy? If you hate running, don&#8217;t run. If you like team sports like football, use that as your primary movement. The best exercise is the one you actually do.<br \/>\nBuilding a habit is a marathon, not a sprint.
