But if you are a type 2 diabetic, it would help you  to cut your carbohydrates intake to 50 grams per day. Legumes are a great source of protein and so are certain grains like farro and quinoa. I\u2019m 100% for a plant based diet over paleo (I did try whole 30 and plant based has worked better for me, personally.) With that said I think every body is different. The thing that really triggered me feeling bad was dairy and meat. I just feel really drowsy and slow when I eat those. Grains have a bad reputation because sometimes they are over processed, and those are the kind of grains you want to avoid (white bread, for example). But whole grains are in fact very good for you. They\u2019re a good source of protein, as are legumes. Just remember that there have been tons of short-lived fad diets over the years: we\u2019ve said that eggs give you bad cholesterol, which they don\u2019t; we\u2019ve said that fruit is bad for you, which it most definitely is not. Science is never settled. So my advice is to just eat clean and organic. While grains are okay. Complex carbs are the problem, processed carbs like bread, pasta etc.<\/p>\n<p>Vegan is really the way to go. Legumes provide not only carbohydrates but protein and (very important) dietary fibre, and are a great choice. When choosing grains always try for a wholegrain option as these contain more fibre and nutrients than highly refined (white) options. Other great carbohydrate options are potato (can provide good resistant starch to feed the gut), sweet potato, pumpkin, carrot, beetroot and corn. Any restrictive diet can be difficult to maintain long term and should be carefully considered to ensure you are getting all the nutrients your body needs.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"single-answer\">\n<div class=\"who-answered\">Charles O.<\/div>\n<div class=\"detailed-answer\">If you stict to a strict Paleo plan, then yes, legumes and grains are off limits. However, they are better for you than a twinkie. I try just to avoid processed foods as best as I can. I don&#39;t like legumes so they are easy to avoid. Processed grains are not good for us, but in the whole form like oats in oatmeal they are ok. I am not as sure about the legumes. This seems logical, but if you need to consider that our ancestors often died  before turning 60 and most before 50. So in general I think that the Paleo diet only makes some sense and not completely. Also, I don&#39;t think it matters so much where you get your nutrition from, as long as you get enough of the right ones. So no, grains and legumes are not bad for you.
