Turn off the TV make a cup of tea and turn off as many lights as possible. Use some kind of scent to signal to your body that the day is ending. I use an essential oil diffuser. Then I use an app on my phone to meditate for 15 minutes, I do this laying down in my bedroom.

After that I take my nightly medication and put my phone in its charger for the night (it’s in a separate room from my bedroom). Then I take my tea into my bedroom and write down three things Im grateful for. Then I pick up a book. I keep four by the bed a some nights I only get through a couple pages because at this point I am so relaxed and my body is so used to this routine that I am fully ready for sleep!

Then I put in ear buds and get under the covers. My personal evening routine is something like this: around 11pm I do some diary-writing, then disconnect myself from social media (put my phone on airplane mode) and try not to avoid screens. I brush my teeth and take my prescribe melatonin to become properly tired. Then I do some yoga and read until I’m tired enough to go to sleep. This usually takes about 40 minutes. it’ll take about 20minutes for me to fall asleep. So I start winding down about an hour before I want to be asleep. Hope this helps! Xx

London N.

8pm is a good time to start winding down. I recommend staying off of technology an hour before bed. That way, your mind is calming down as the night goes on.

Anne O.

Around 8 pm, take time for skincare, stretching, flossing, drinking water and finally falling asleep which takes around 15 minutes

Oscar Z.

I would say an hour and a half. In the first 30mins get all the things you want to do on your phone done, like put your alarms, last check on social media, etc. So by the time you hit that hour before bed you aren't on your phone which will help with your sleep. It'll also give you time to do your night time routine or read a book or anything that doesn't involve technology.

Desiree F.

Give yourself at least 30 minutes before bedtime. During that time, don't use any screens. This gives your eyes enough of a break from blue light that it won't be a factor keeping you awake by the time you get to bed. Also, it gives you enough time to do other nightly rituals, like washing your face, brushing your teeth, etc.

George U.

I think 60-90 minutes is perhaps best for me, as it take me a while to truly wind down.
