Disconnecting from your electronic devices helps to get a better night's sleep. The reason why is because of the light that the devices emit when you look at their screens. To be a little more specific, the blue light the screens show is the biggest factor that throws off your sleep schedule and prevents you from having a good night's rest. So if you want a good rest for the night, then disconnecting from electronics can make a big difference. If you find it hard to break away from electronics during the night, then there are a few things that can help : you can either read a book, write in your journal, even draw, anything that's not related to your phone or computer is going to help you get a better rest. I hope it helps. For me, the suggested disconnection methods are extreme. Although I wish I were able to turn off the wifi and leave my phones where they would not even be a temptation, it’s not feasible for me personally or professionally (medical on-call). I did however modify my behavior to mimic the suggestions as best I can. I use the “do not disturb” function so that after a certain hour only calls from specific numbers will ring- this eliminates a spam call jarring me out of sleep, thus requiring a phone to be in my hand, and scrolling into the abyss because I can’t get back to sleep. There is now a dedicated area so they can be heard, easily accessed, but are otherwise out of view. The time limit features, bedtime reminders and parental controls are also pretty helpful once you identify what you need to make disconnecting a benefit. I keep my Kindle paperwhite with me for when I do wake and can’t just snooze again. There are no blue light issues and I can read, relax and engage without over stimulation and can usually fall back asleep within an hour. The reason why is because doing so gives me time to decompress my thoughts and go with my emotional flow.

Amber P.

Yes! It helps in many ways some of which are, at least for me: getting a better night sleep, being able to calm down and focus on the remaining tasks in the evening (so you can finish them quickly and go to sleep sooner), resting your eyes, and resting your mind from all the news. I really belive anyone can benefit from using their electronics less or not at all in the evening 🙂

Aurelia F.

it's somewhat help, its reduces my anxiety since the vibe of a city is really stink my skin. the forest is closer to home

Kaitlyn U.

It does for me. I stretch and meditate right before I go to bed and after I set my alarms and such for the next morning. I’ve found that even though it’s been less than a month or so, it’s easier for me to fall asleep (I normally take a whole alternate reality dream scenario at least) and that I feel calmer and more relaxed when I finally lie down for the night. I think the meditation is the most helpful part for me because it quiets my brain and I feel more centered and focused on the present which makes it easier to fall asleep (less what if’s and should haves)

Simone F.

Absolutely. I have suffered from anxiety and insomnia for many years now. I have found, however, that logging off 30 minutes to an hour before bed helps my brain to wind down. Disconnecting from the outside world helps me to relieve the stress and anxiety that comes along with comparison, social media, work/school… all the things.

Marshall Y.

Yes. I wind down a lot easier. I also find myself focusing on what is important to me, rather than losing valuable time surfing around addictive social media.

Maria Z.

Yes. The eletronic devices can take us good nights of sleep. So, we need to put away our devices at least one hour before going to bed.

Maria Y.

Yes it does! You should also make it a habit to go into a quiet and dark place with some music to allow your inner peace to awaken. I did this for the first time yesterday and I have never slept better!

Carol X.

For me disconnecting for the night helps for better sleep I feel that the more time I spend in front of a screen the harder it is to fall asleep I usually grab a good book and wrap myself in a blanket I promise it makes for the best sleep

Lilith N.

I would say disconnecting for the night does help, yes. Taking a step back and just breathing, looking outside, and relaxing while not having to worry about anything or checking my phone feels therapeutic.

Elizabeth N.

So far it has helped. I used to watch videos until I fell asleep but would wake up frequently. I think maybe it was more of a stimulant than I realized. The last couple night I haven’t woke up as much and felt better rested. I recommend unplugging for sure

Maureen C.

Disconnecting for the night did help me! I was doubtful because I have a sleep disorder called Idiopathic Hypersomnia where I’m more tired than the average person due to poor quality sleep, and I need more sleep than average. My doctor and I finally found a medicine that helps with some of the symptoms causing my sleep quality to be poor. However, since I can pretty much always fall asleep in my bed and have to fight to not doze off early, I thought electronics wouldn’t matter. It turns out that disconnecting is a good idea for me anyway. I can put my phone on Do Not Disturb mode, use the time to care for myself or quietly do something I enjoy, and I wind up with more refreshing sleep. I’m also not going to bed angry or anxious about something mean somebody said to me on social media.

Valesca Q.

Yes it does help, immensely. I get better quality sleep, fall asleep easier and faster, and can sleep uninterrupted due to disconnecting from technology and blue light waves. It also gives me an opportunity to reconnect with my lifelong passion of reading, as I use my disconnect time to read a chapter or two of a book, which is much more enriching and relaxing than playing on my cell phone is.

Reza I.

I think yes. If you're on your phone or doing other stuff that takes a lot of mental power, your mind is constantly running around you know. I love going to bed a little earlier just to read a book for at least half an hour, just to be able to really relax before closing my eyes and drifting off to sleep. The reading makes me sleepy, which helps with falling asleep faster. I have less time to overthink everything and because my brain/mind has had time to disconnect from the world, it's less present if you understand what I mean. You disconnect, you rest and the rest of the world will drift away to the back of your mind, becoming less present. Which makes it easier for me at least to fall asleep.

Sreelakshmi F.

Yes it helped a lot, before starting this habit i used to stare at screen until past midnight or long time than that… because so this my sleep cycle was completely bad.. which in turn spoiled my day.. because of this i was having a hard time in life..but after starting this habit a lot changed..my sleep cycle was good for the past 2 days, because I got a good night sleep i was able to be more productive, happy and energetic,I'm feeling a great change after doing this for just 2 days..so i won't break habit…

Lizzy N.

For me sometimes, but i have horrible insomnia and my mind just stays running.
