In terms of the amount of time, that just depends. You should workout to be healthy and happy, not to punish yourself. Set reasonable goals for distance and pace and work toward improvements over time. Maybe do a race. Just run to feel your body and be healthy. 3 miles 4 times a week is plenty. For a while I stopped thinking I should run and instead made sure to walk a lot &#8211; to work, visiting friends, after dinner and for my yoga workouts (which were only yin and hatha yoga!!!). This  helped me get some muscles as well as a sense of my own body and how it has changed and how it works after putting on weight. I found that feeling my body helps me wanting to do more and then I set up a VERY slow running routine. Realizing what I\u2019m able to still run (although shorter and slower &#8211; whatever it doesn\u2019t matter!!!!) and finding ease in the routine has helped me continue!!<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"single-answer\">\n<div class=\"who-answered\">Elsa O.<\/div>\n<div class=\"detailed-answer\">Last year I gained 20 pounds. You\u2019re only looking to improve, incrementally, not be \u201cgood\u201d in a wider sense. If in week 2 you\u2019ve done a tiny bit more than you did on week 1, then that\u2019s successful. A 5 minute light jog is infinitely better than not jogging!
